The Rohit Sharma-led Indian side will open its Asia Cup campaign in a blockbuster clash against the old rival Pakistan in Kandy on September 2. The six-team tournament will begin on August 30 in Multan between hosts Pakistan and debutant Nepal. Watch Ind vs Pak live on YuppTV and enjoy a mouth-watering contest.

India will face Pakistan almost a year since they last met in the T20 World Cup in Australia. Every cricket fan is eager to watch the battle between the neighbors and excited to watch their favorite players in action. India had a disappointing Asia Cup in 2022 and failed to reach the finals. Sri Lanka defeated Pakistan in the final and won the championship. India would like to perform well to get the much-needed motivation ahead of the World Cup at home this October.

Excitement for the India vs Pakistan game started ever since the ACC announced Asia Cup 2023 schedules. Now that both countries are placed in Group A along with Nepal, there is a high possibility that India and Pakistan will face at least twice in the tournament, one in the group level and another in the Super 4s. If they manage to top the Super 4s, it will be their third encounter in the event and a splendid final to the tournament.

India dominated the Asia Cup championship and looks to reclaim its pride and glory. Of the previous fifteen editions, India won the title for a record seven times, and Sri Lanka lifted the trophy on six occasions. Pakistan won the championship twice. Bangladesh managed to reach the final thrice but lost in every appearance. If India wins the current edition, Rohit Sharma will become the third Indian captain after Azharuddin and Dhoni to win the title twice. Dasun Shanaka is another captain on the verge of joining the elite list if Lanka wins the trophy.

Excitement over the India-Pakistan encounter reached another level after India’s chief selector Ajit Agarkar announced the squad for the Asia Cup. Rohit Sharma will lead the side, and Hardik Pandya will serve as his deputy. Here’s the Indian squad with their pro skill set.

Batters: Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Ishan Kishan.

Pace Bowlers: Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna

Spinners — Kuldeep Yadav

All-rounders: Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel

Reserve: Sanju Samson

Three consecutive fifties in the West Indies worked in Ishan Kishan’s favor and might include him in the playing XI. Tilak Varma got his maiden call for his brilliant knocks in the Caribbean. Tilak Varma and Ishan Kishan are the only two left-handed batters in the side.

Jasprit Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna, KL Rahul, and Shreyas Iyer return from a prolonged injury. Rishab Pant’s unavailability due to his accident has opened doors for wicketkeeper batsmen like Ishan Kishan, KL Rahul, and Sanju Samson as backup. KL Rahul picked a niggle, and time will decide his fitness. Shreyas Iyer proved that he is match fit.

Kuldeep Yadav returns to the side after his consistent excellence this year and for a brilliant spell in the West Indies tour. Since dew will play a critical role in the sub-continent, Kuldeep has been picked over Chahal, R Ashwin, and Washington Sundar for his wrist spin.

Team India’s tournament opener with Pakistan is one of the most-anticipated games. While their clash in Super 4 is likely to happen, the finals between them will be a treat to watch.
